On June 14, 2024, the MSD AI Working Group hosted its first webinar on exploring how generative AI, explainable AI, and machine learning can help improve modeling efforts in multiple domains, including climate science, hydrology, and energy systems.

The webinar was led by Stefano Galelli (Cornell University; WG Co-Chair), David Gold (Utrecht University; WG Co-Chair), and Jillian Sturtevant (Baylor University; WG Communications Officer). Guest speakers included Andrea Castelletti (Politecnico di Milano), Chaopeng Shen (Pennsylvania State University), and Nicole Jackson (Sandia National Laboratory). The webinar was attended by about 60 researchers within and external to the MSD community, with the audience engaging in an interactive Q&A session in which attendees were encouraged to write responses to questions pertaining to AI in MSD.
