ACME Transitions to E3SM
In preparation for its first model release, the Accelerated Climate Modeling for Energy (ACME) project will transition its name to the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM). This name change better reflects the emphasis the project has on its capability to model the full earth system and it more explicitly identifies its plan to target next-generation U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) exascale computing.
The E3SM project is an ongoing, state-of-the-science earth system modeling, simulation, and prediction project that optimizes the use of DOE laboratory resources to meet the science needs of the nation and the mission needs of DOE. This model will be the primary, go-to-model for DOE researchers.
Led by a collaboration of several DOE national laboratories and several academic partners, E3SM’s primary purpose is for scientific research, and it is also available to support planning for national energy and related sectoral needs.
