Abstract

GEWEX is one of the core projects of World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), with a focus on global and regional energy, water, and carbon cycles. Throughout its 30+ years of history, GEWEX has organized numerous international projects related to global atmospheric processes, land processes, regional hydroclimate, and global data analysis. It organizes over 30 international projects at present, with each one involving scientists from different countries. In contrast, GPEX is a new 10-year WCRP Lighthouse Activity, with a focus on global and regional precipitation, through globally coordinated field campaigns, precipitation-relevant database development, process understanding and model improvement, and capacity development. Many EESM scientists are involved in GEWEX and GPEX projects as leaders or participants.

As the GEWEX SSG Co-Chair and GPEX Interim SSG Chair, I could provide the GEWEX and GPEX perspectives on various EESM Breakout Discussion Topics and potential two-way interactions in a plenary session.
