Additional NetCDF Compression Options with the Community Codec Repository (CCR)

Abstract
Built-in compression was added to netCDF in the 4.0 release in 2008. Since then, only zlib compression has been supported for netCDF files. Recent work has allowed additional compression methods to be used. These other methods may offer benefits such as faster compression, faster decompression, or better compression. We introduce the CCR project, a third-party library that enables a basket of new compression methods into existing netCDF installations.
